Funeral Service Facts in Indianapolis, IN

How Do Medicaid Benefits Work with Funerals?

Medicaid benefits do not include coverage for cremations, burials, and any other funeral services; however; there are clauses that allow persons with Medicaid to set aside their own personal savings for funeral and burial expenses without those savings being considered part of their assets. In order to pursue this benefit, one must apply through the Social Security Offices. That way, the saved money is not used as a strike against their pending Medicaid benefits.

What about Veterans’ Benefits and Funerals?

Veteran’s benefits vary depending on rank, active duty, or regular discharge. To initiate whatever benefits that may be available, you will need to supply a copy of the Veteran’s discharge papers (DD-214).

Normal Benefits Include:
  • a U.S. flag for burial purposes
  • a headstone or grave marker
  • a Military Service at the graveside or crypt
  • the option of burial in a National Cemetery
Local National Cemeteries Include:
  • Marion National Cemetery-Marion, IN
  • Indiana Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery-Madison, IN
We have included a phone number and website information for any further benefits that may be available to you or your family.
  • V.A. Administration 1-800-827-1000

Purchasing Burial Space

Purchasing an eternal resting spot for your loved one is a separate process that is not included in our funeral home services. This is an errand that needs to be prepared prior to the closing of the funeral arrangements. We are happy to provide recommendations if you are in search of a local cemetery.

Will We Receive Social Security Benefits?

Social Security usually pays a one-time death benefit to a surviving spouse or dependent children.  We routinely notify Social Security on your behalf upon the death of your spouse or loved one. If you are currently receiving Social Security benefits, your payment should be adjusted automatically.

However, your circumstances may be different so we have included a phone number and website information so you may contact them personally.
